The season kicked off with the beloved Steve Martin at the helm and Blondie performing “Dreaming” and “The Hardest Part.” Martin, a frequent and reliable host, always delivered his brand of delightful, silly absurdity. Noteworthy was the return of the “All-New Mr. Bill Show,” and a cameo by Buck Henry. It was a familiar, high-energy start, reminding viewers why Martin was a favorite.
