Al Franken

Seasons 5

Before he was Senator Al Franken, he was one of the original writers and a featured performer on SNL. A key voice in the show’s early political satire, he was known for his ‘Weekend Update’ appearances, often alongside his writing partner, Tom Davis. His most famous character was Stuart Smalley, the gentle, lisping host of ‘Daily Affirmations,’ a character that preached self-love with the catchphrase, ‘I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it, people like me!’ The character was popular enough to spawn a feature film. Franken’s career took a dramatic turn when he entered politics, becoming a U.S. Senator for Minnesota.
