The older brother of Bill Murray, Brian Doyle-Murray was a writer and featured player on SNL during several different stints in the late ’70s and early ’80s. With his gravelly voice and gruff demeanor, he was a memorable character actor, often playing cantankerous authority figures. As a writer, he was responsible for some of the show’s classic commercial parodies. After his time at SNL, he built a career as a go-to character actor in comedy films, appearing in classics like Caddyshack (which he also co-wrote), National Lampoon’s Vacation, and Groundhog Day. Doyle-Murray also became a familiar voice actor, most notably as the Flying Dutchman on SpongeBob SquarePants.
