When a member of Monty Python hosts, expectations are high, and Eric Idle did not disappoint. He brought his distinct brand of intelligent, surreal British humor to the show, which meshed perfectly with the cast’s anarchic energy. His monologue, a rambling song about the show’s budget, was hilarious. The classic “What’s the Ugliest Part of Your Body?” musical number with the cast was a moment of pure joy. The entire episode was wonderfully weird and unpredictable. Joe Cocker, in his second appearance, gave another raw and incredibly powerful performance. This was SNL at its most clever and internationally-flavored, a fantastic collaboration between two comedic institutions that resulted in a truly special and memorable show.
