Acclaimed actress Maureen Stapleton was a wonderfully warm and funny host. She had a great sense of humor about herself, delivering a monologue about her forgetfulness that was both charming and hilarious. She wasn’t a polished sketch performer, but her natural, down-to-earth quality made her endearing. A sketch where she plays Gilda Radner’s overbearing mother was a highlight. The show had a sweet, good-natured feel. The musical performances were stellar, with Linda Ronstadt and Phoebe Snow delivering a pair of beautiful, powerful duets.
