The 18th Episode of Season 1 of Saturday Night Live aired on April 24, 1976. The host was Raquel Welch, and the musical guest was Phoebe Snow & John Sebastian.
Raquel Welch was a glamorous and charismatic host who was more than willing to poke fun at her own public image. The show used her as a perfect straight woman in many sketches, and her comedic timing was surprisingly sharp. A sketch where she performs a disastrous, over-the-top musical number was a standout, perfectly satirizing celebrity vanity projects. The cast was in top form, with Dan Aykroyd’s fast-talking pitchman character being particularly memorable. The musical performances from Phoebe Snow and John Sebastian were excellent. It was a well-produced, funny, and glamorous episode that successfully played to its host’s strengths, ending the season on a high note.
