A veteran stage and screen actor, George Coe was credited as a cast member for the very first episode of SNL in 1975. He was featured in the opening episode and several others in the early shows. At 46, he was significantly older than the rest of the ‘Not Ready for Prime Time Players,’ and hired to provide older character work as needed. While his on-screen role was quickly reduced and he was not credited as a main cast member beyond the first episode, he remained a part of the show’s extended family. Coe went on to have a long and distinguished career as a character actor and a voice actor, most notably as the voice of Woodhouse on the animated series Archer.
