The 15th Episode of Season 2 of Saturday Night Live aired on March 12, 1977. The host was Sissy Spacek, and the musical guest was Richard Baskin.
Fresh off her Oscar-winning role in Carrie, Sissy Spacek was a charming and down-to-earth host. The show famously parodied Carrie in the opening, with John Belushi playing the Spacek role in a gag that paid off beautifully at the end of the show. Spacek showed off a surprising and delightful comedic range throughout the night. Gilda Radner’s Roseanne Roseannadanna character made her debut on “Weekend Update,” immediately establishing herself as a loud, gross, and hilarious new voice. The episode felt fresh and funny, showcasing both its host’s hidden talents and the cast’s ability to create new iconic characters. A very strong and memorable installment.
