SNL Season 3, Episode 15: Christopher Lee

B+

The 15th Episode of Season 3 of Saturday Night Live aired on March 25, 1978. The host was Christopher Lee, and the musical guest was Meat Loaf.
Having horror icon Christopher Lee host was an inspired choice, especially with his co-star from a recent film, a young Bill Murray. Lee brought his dignified, menacing presence to every sketch, which made the comedy even funnier. His monologue, where he talked about being typecast, was great, and he was a surprisingly good sport. A sketch where he plays a concerned father meeting his daughter’s bizarre boyfriend (Dan Aykroyd) was a highlight. The show had a fun, spooky vibe. Meat Loaf delivered an incredibly theatrical and over-the-top performance of his hits from Bat Out of Hell, which was one of the most memorable musical moments of the season. A wonderfully weird and entertaining episode.
