All-time great Saturday Night Live cast member Dan Aykroyd has announced a fall tour to promote his first novel, Soulhider, which is available now for pre-sale.

Aykroyd will be in Austin, Texas, on October 26. His next stop will be in Santa Monica, California, and on October 29 the award-winning actor and writer will be in Ridgewood, New Jersey to sign copies of the novel. The final leg of his first book tour will be in New York on October 30 with a signing following a discussion at The Strand.

The release of Soulhider, which has a paranormal theme, coincides with Halloween season. Aykroyd has long been associated with the paranormal, dating back to his own roots when he had family who were “always interested in the unusual and the unexplainable,” according to an interview with Tom Green. Aykroyd’s interested in ghosts helped when he co-wrote Ghostbusters, which became a massively successful film and launched an entire franchise.

According to booknotes on Amazon, Soulhider is a “mind-bending, page-turning speculative adventure about a regular guy caught up in a battle between warring aliens, told with equal doses of humor, suspense, and cosmic intrigue.”

The protagonist of the novel is Doug Beeston, who becomes embroiled in a situation where “multiple alien species are locked in a silent interdimensional rivalry, using Doug as an unwitting middleman in their cosmic chess game.” In Soulhider, it coon becomes clear that “the fate of Earth itself may hang in the balance.”

If any SNL cast member can make the leap from television comedy star to successful novelist it may be Aykroyd, who has many writing credits of note on his IMDB profile. The Canadian-born actor co-wrote the Blues Brothers movie, Spies Like Us, and the SNL sketch-turned movie Coneheads, which was released in 1993.

Aykroyd is one of the richest former SNL cast members, having found tremendous success as an entertainer and business man. His successes include a chain of Blues Brothers-themed restaurants, the Ghostbuster franchise and associated merchandise, and the popular Crystal Head Vodka brand.
