En vivo desde Nueva York, es sábado por la noche!
The popular artist who has made Spanish-language rap music an international sensation, Bad Bunny, will host the season opener for the 51st season of Saturday Night Live on October 4.
This is an encore performance for Bunny: he hosted the second episode in Season 49 to somewhat mixed reviews, though a few elements of that show have proven to be viral hits.
According to IMDB, the Bunny episode of S49 is the lowest-rated of that season by viewers. However, two sketches that evening have garnered more than 13 million combined views on YouTube.
What can we expect from Bad Bunny in episode one of season 50 of the variety program on NBC?
Protective Mom sketch with Bad Bunny and special guest Pedro Pascal
It would be a shock if “Protective Mom,” also known as “the Auntie sketch” did not reappear for Bad Bunny’s return. The sketch featured Marcello Hernández, who co-wrote it along with John Higgins, who has since left the show. But co-writer Martin Herlihy is still on staff in the writing room despite the split of the “Please Don’t Destroy” trio he shared with Ben Marshall, who is now a featured player.
The question is whether Pedro Pascal, a close friend of the Puerto Rican singer/rapper, will return to make a special guest appearance, as he did in the previous sketch. Pascal is at the center of a group of celebrities who have become Friends of the Show in recent years. Bad Bunny and Pascal were seen together at the SNL 50 musical Homecoming Concert in February.
Shrek 2? Not likely with “Destroy” trio split up
In S49 E2, Bad Bunny appeared in a short film produced and conceived by the boys of Please Don’t Destroy (Herlihy, Higgins, and Marshall). In it, the host appears in makeup dressed as Shrek, pitching story ideas for the show.
But the PDD group is now splintered. Which means we can’t be sure if there will be so-called digital shorts or film shorts in Season 51.
The Shrek sketch has more than three million streams on the official SNL YouTube channel.
One thing we won’t see in the opener to Season 51 is music from Bad Bunny. He will welcome musical guest Doja Cat. It is possible that the two could perform together, of course.
