Vanessa Bayer was a master of playing sunny, slightly unhinged characters with a beaming smile. Her breakout creation was Jacob the Bar Mitzvah Boy, a painfully awkward but endearing presence on ‘Weekend Update.’ She also gave us the long-suffering wife in the ‘Totino’s’ sketches and a brilliantly goofy Miley Cyrus impression. Bayer’s specialty was finding the comedy in repressed enthusiasm and social awkwardness. After SNL, she co-created and starred in the critically acclaimed series I Love That for You, a semi-autobiographical comedy that showcased her ability to blend humor with genuine heart, earning her a Critics’ Choice Award nomination.
