Former Saturday Night Live cast member and head writer Seth Meyers must be doing something right. The current host of Late Night with Seth Meyers has been targeted with his monologues and commentary on Donald Trump’s friendship with Jeffrey Epstein.
Recently, the late night host hit a nerve with his comments about Trump’s obfuscation of the bill to release the so-called Epstein Files. Eventually, Trump relented to pressure and signed the bill, but as usual, the politician has been thin-skinned regarding the criticism he’s received.
“NBC’s Seth Meyers is suffering from an incurable case of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS),” Trump on Truth Social earlier this month. “[Meyers] was viewed last night in an uncontrollable rage, likely due to the fact that his “show” is a Ratings DISASTER. Aside from everything else, Meyers has no talent, and NBC should fire him, IMMEDIATELY!”
The fact that a sitting president is so obsessed with comedians making comments about him should be alarming enough, but in The World of Trump, this is to be expected. Donald is as sensitive as a toddler when a parent takes his favorite stuffed animal away. The attack on Meyers and the NBC show are just the latest salvo of nonsense from Trump via his mouthpiece. Truth Social.
Meyers has pointed out the hypocrisy of Trump delaying and stalling the release of names on the alleged list held by Epstein that may show “clients” he helped secure underage women for. Epstein committed suicide in a jail cell in 2019 as he was awaiting relocation to a prison following his conviction of procuring a child for prostitution and sex trafficking.
Trump is linked to Epstein through a friendship that dated back to the 1980s. Trump allegedly gave Epstein a birthday card in which he cryptically seems to be referring to sexual liaisons with his friend. Trump has denied sending the birthday letter. He has distanced himself from Epstein, but after promising to release all files relating to Epstein when he ran for re-election in 2024, Trump has predictably went back on his word.
Meyers has hosted Late Night since 2014. The show is produced by Broadway Video and SNl co-creator Lorne Michaels.
