Already a sketch comedy legend from his time with The Kids in the Hall, Mark McKinney joined SNL in 1995, bringing his surreal and character-driven style to the show. He created several memorable characters, including the chain-smoking, foul-mouthed Catholic school student, Melanie, and one of the aggressively cheerful Fops. He was a seasoned professional in a cast of newcomers. After his tenure, McKinney continued to work in television and film, eventually finding massive mainstream success as the star of the long-running sitcom Superstore.
