A master of subtle, strange characters, Fred Armisen was a fixture on SNL for 11 seasons. His creations were brilliantly specific, from the unprepared, mumbling comedian Nicholas Fehn to the vaguely European art dealer Nuni. His impression of Barack Obama during the 2008 election was a major part of the show’s political coverage. He was also a gifted musician, often incorporating his skills into sketches. After SNL, he co-created and co-starred in the Peabody Award-winning sketch series Portlandia, a show that perfectly distilled his quirky comedic sensibility. He also serves as the bandleader for Late Night with Seth Meyers, staying close to his SNL roots.
