Already a teen movie icon from his work with John Hughes in films like The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles, Anthony Michael Hall joined the SNL cast at the age of 17, making him the youngest cast member in history. During the 1985-86 season, he played a variety of nerdy, high-strung teenage characters. While his talent was obvious, the sketch format proved a challenging transition. After his single season, Hall sought to break away from his typecasting, taking on a variety of tougher roles in film and television.
