The film One Battle After Another has restored the faith of movie-goers in the ability of that medium to thrill audiences. Saturday Night Live is tapping into that by welcoming Teyana Taylor, an award-nominated star.
Taylor will make her SNL hosting debut on Jan. 24, along with musical guest Geese, also making a first appearance at Studio 8H.
Season 51 continues Jan. 17 with Finn Wolfhard. We now know the next two hosts for January of this new year.
Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actor Alexander Skarsgård will host SNL on Jan. 31 with musical guest Cardi B in her second appearance on the show. The episode will be the 1,000th in the history of Saturday Night Live, though the program has made no reference to that milestone as of yet.
Taylor is a talented performer who began her career as a teenager when she choreographed the video for Beyonce’s single “Ring the Alarm” in 2006. She starred opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Benicio Del Toro in One Battle After Another, the 2025 Paul Thomas Anderson film that is in contention for many honors during the award season.
Geese will be a rarity on SNL: an American band as musical guest. In an era where solo performers and international musicians largely populate the charts, Geese has been described as simultaneously “indie rock,” “art punk,” “post-punk,” and “experimental rock.” A four-person group formed in Brooklyn a decade ago, the band has released four albums and several singles.
On Jan. 31, Cardi B will support Skarsgård in his hosting bow on SNL. Cardi B appeared in Season 43 in the episode hosted by Chadwick Boseman on April 7, 2018. That SNL show is graded overall as a C by SNL Rankings, with Cardi B receiving a “B” for her performances.
The 51st season of Saturday Night Live has proven to be uneven as the show experiences a transition to a cast of new central figures. Longtime cast members Heidi Gardner and Ego Nwodim left the show before Season 51. Emmy-winning cast member Bowen Yang said goodbye to SNL in December during the show hosted by Ariana Grande.
