Actor Colman Domingo will host Saturday Night Live next month. This will mark his first appearance as host of the show. His musical guest will be Brazilian pop star Anitta.

The Domingo episode will be the 17th of Season 51, following the show that will be hosted by Jack Black on April 4.

Domingo has been awarded two Emmy Awards, and been nominated for Academy Awards and Tony Awards as an actor. He has also found success as a playwright.

Anitta is arguably the most successful female Brazilian music artist in history, based on accolades and music sold. She has one Brazilian Music Award, four Latin American Music Awards, three MTV Music Video Awards, and nine MTV Europe Music Awards. She’s also received nominations for two Grammy Awards.

Colman will star in the upcoming film Michael, which is based on the life and career of former pop music icon Michael Jackson. He will also appear in two series that are set to return to popular streaming platforms: Euphoria (HBO MAX) and The Four Seasons, which will appear on Netflix and was created by former SNL cast member and head writer Tina Fey.

Season 51 has been a mixed bag for SNL. The overall season score is 75.3 through 15 episodes, according to SNL Rankings. That equates to a C average, and would be the lowest season score since Season 48.

This season has seen a handful of good episodes from the longtime NBC variety show: Glen Powell, Connor Storrie, and Ariana Grande notably. But SNL has also put out four episodes that are among the worst in many years, including the recent Ryan Gosling debacle which has been criticized by one former cast member for its unprofessionalism.

Episodes hosted by Melissa McCarthy, Sabrina Carpenter, and Finn Wolfhard were each rated as D or worse this season. Both the Bad Bunny episode, which kicked off Season 51, and the show hosted by Teyana Taylor were also poorly rated.

A few of the newest cast members have emerged with excellent performances during Season 51: Ashley Padilla and Jeremy Culhane, for example. But the funny moments have been too few as the writing and performances have bene spotty.
