In Episode 9 of Season 51 next month, Cher will be welcomed as musical guest for the Ariana Grande holiday show. Her appearance will set a record.
Cher was last musical guest on Episode 5 of Season 13, on November 21, 1987. In that show, the host was Candice Bergen. The 38 years between Cher’s appearances will establish a mark for the longest stretch between a headliner gig in SNL history.
Previously, Eddie Murphy held the record for longest stretch between headliner appearances, at 35 years between hosting in Season 10 and Season 45.
Cher was a smash success last February at the SNL 50: Homecoming Concert, where she performed her iconic hit “If I Could Turn Back Time.”
Ariana Grande and Cher will be on Saturday Night Live on December 20, for the 9th episode of this season, and final episode before the holiday break.
