Former Saturday Night Live cast member Chloe Troast debuted her streaming comedy show this month. The first episode of Spilling Your Seed with Chloe Troast welcomes current SNL cast member Ben Marshall as a guest.
Troast was a cast member for the 49th season of SNL. Despite gaining attention for a handful of noteworthy sketch performances, she multi-talented Troast was not asked back. She is one of the most prominent “one-and-done” cast members in the history of the show.
A talented singer, comedian, and actress, Troast had the versatility and charisma to fill a void on SNL and become part of a new generation of performers on the show. She shined in the sketch Little Orphan Cassidy in SN 49, where she had a monologue as well as a solo singing performance.
The decision to not invite Troast back for Season 50 was puzzling, especially considering the fact that executive producer Lorne Michaels now leans heavily on a large cast in hopes a few of the performers will become stars. Troast’s exit was strange considering the show has recently kept such one-note cast members like Jane Wickline, and lesser talents such as Molly Kearney were given multiple years in the cast.
New YouTube talk show starring Chloe Troast
This show, which apparently does not have a sponsor (yet) is somewhat of a spoof of Finding Your Roots hosted by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. In that show, celebrities are presented with details of their ancestry. The premise is that the celebrity will be shocked by something from their past.
In the style of Between Two Ferns hosted Zach Galifianakis, Spilling Your Seed with Chloe Troast is a faux talk show that seems at least partially unscripted, at least in regards to the guest. Like in Finding Your Roots, Troast has her guest open a book placed in front of them to learn about “their lineage.” Marshall for example, is told that he is at least part giraffe, and is presented with a young actress portraying his long-lost daughter. It appears based on this fist episode, that the guest, in this case Marshall, is unaware of the line of the material that will be in the episode.
In a promo video for the series, Troast shares clips of at least four other episodes with comedians and actors as guests.
The show is produced Stapleview and Lisa. The former is a TikTok-based comedy group that reportedly plans to launch several web-based series in the near future.
Troast is listed as co-creator with Sam Blumenfeld, who is also known for Fixed: How I Got Rejected by Reality TV, and is listed as director of Spilling Your Seed with Chloe Troast. The producers are listed as Cullen McMillan, William Kenton, Steven Raia, Allen McCrae, and Blumenfeld.
