Before she became a beloved, Oscar-nominated character actress, Joan Cusack was a cast member on the star-studded but mediocre 1985-86 season. She was known for her quirky, off-kilter characters, most notably Salena, a socially awkward girl with a thick neck brace who was perpetually trying to ask a boy out. Her unique comedic energy was already apparent. After her single season, Cusack launched into a highly successful film career, with memorable roles in Working Girl, Grosse Pointe Blank, and as the voice of Jessie in the Toy Story franchise. Her SNL stint was an early showcase for a talent that would soon be widely celebrated.
