A key player in the early ’80s cast that helped keep the show from sliding off the rails, Joe Piscopo was a high-energy performer with a knack for broad characters and impressions. His most famous was a spot-on, intense take on Frank Sinatra, often paired with Eddie Murphy. He was also known as the hyper-enthusiastic sportscaster on ‘Saturday Night News.’ For a time, Piscopo was one of the show’s biggest stars. After leaving SNL, he starred in the film Johnny Dangerously and has had a career as a radio host and stage performer. He remains a memorable figure from a transitional and vital period in the show’s history.
