A sharp, intelligent performer in the late 1980s, Nora Dunn was known for her biting wit and strong character work. She co-created the vapid, Medusa-haired lounge singers, The Sweeney Sisters, with Jan Hooks, a classic sketch of the era. She also made a name for herself as the snooty social critic Pat Stevens. Dunn’s tenure is also noted for her controversial decision to boycott an episode hosted by Andrew Dice Clay, a principled stand that highlighted the show’s cultural tensions at the time. Post-SNL, she has worked steadily as a character actress in numerous films and television shows.
