A virtuoso of mimicry and character creation, Dana Carvey defined SNL in the late ’80s and early ’90s. His arsenal was staggering: the sanctimonious and smug Church Lady, the muscle-bound Hans of ‘Pumping Up with Hans and Franz,’ and a pitch-perfect, devastatingly funny impression of President George H.W. Bush. His energy was infectious, and his precision was unmatched. Alongside Mike Myers, he co-piloted the ‘Wayne’s World’ sketches and subsequent movies to massive success. Carvey’s influence as one of the all-time great impressionists is undeniable, and he is still summoned to appear as a special guest performer in that role.
