Former Saturday Night Live writer and member of the Please Don’t Destroy comedy team John Higgins is joining the cast of Scrubs for the second season.
Higgins, who spent four years as an SNL writer and contributor to the digital short films created by Please Don’t Destroy with Martin Herlihy and Ben Marshall, will play a recurring role in Season 11 of Scrubs, which is back on ABC for a reboot of sorts.
The part on Scrubs isn’t the first time Higgins has been in front of the camera since leaving Studio 8H after Season 50. He appeared in the “The Stick” on Apple TV+, and also will be on screen in the upcoming film “Bad Day,” which stars Cameron Diaz.
Higgins is the son of SNL producer Steve Higgins, who has served in some capacity for the late night show since the mid-1990s, and is also the announcer for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on NBC.
In a way, John Higgins grew up around Saturday Night Live, which is how he became friends and collaborators with Marshall and Herlihy, whose father also wrote for SNL in the 1990s.
Scrubs spent nine seasons on ABC from 2001 to 2010. The show starred Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, and an ensemble cast. It was brought back for a 10th season last February, picking up storylines where the previous run left off. The 11th season (or second season of the revival run) is expected to be released early in 2027.
